LORD SIMON OF HIGHBURY CBE
Lord Simon of Highbury started his career with British Petroleum and joined the BP Group Main Board in 1985 where he was Managing Director Finance and COO. He became Group Chief Executive in 1992 and was appointed Chairman in 1995.
In 1997, Lord Simon was appointed to be Minister of State in H.M. Treasury and the Department of Trade and Industry as Minister for Trade and Competitiveness in Europe. He retired from ministerial office and the Lords Front Bench in 1999 to become Advisor to the Cabinet Office.
He was appointed by President Prodi to be one of the three-man team advising on the impact of enlargement of the European Union.
BOARD MANDATES
Lord Simon is currently a Non-Executive Director on the board of GDF Suez Group.
He is a Senior Advisor of Morgan Stanley International and an Advisory Board Member of Dana Gas and Montrose Associates. Lord Simon is a member of the Board of Governors of the Institute for Government.
Previously, Lord Simon was Deputy Chairman of Unilever from 2006-2009, having joined their board in 2000. He has been Vice President of the European Round Table of Industrialists and a member of the CBI Presidents Committee. He was also a Non-Executive Director of the Bank of England, RTZ (later renamed to Rio Tinto) and Grand Metropolitan. Lord Simon has been a member of the Advisory Boards of Deutsche Bank, Allianz, Fortis and LEK and a member of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen. He was also a Trustee and Chairman of the Cambridge University Foundation and then Deputy Chairman of the University Council.
AWARDS Lord Simon was appointed CBE in 1991, KBE in 1995 and entered the House of Lords in 1997. |
