Morris Tabaksblat, KBE
Morris Tabaksblat joined Unilever in 1964 where he spent 35 years working in various positions in the Netherlands, UK, USA, Spain and Brazil.
He worked in New York as Regional Director for North America, was elected to the Board in 1984 and from 1994 until 1999 was Chairman and CEO of Unilever.
Board Mandates
In 1999, Mr. Tabaksblat was appointed Chairman of Reed Elsevier, a position he held until his retirement in 2005.
From 2000 until 2005, Mr. Tabaksblat was Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of AEGON and TNT (formerly TPG). In 2003 he was Chairman of the Corporate Governance Commission in the Netherlands.
He has been Chairman of the European Round Table of Industrialists (ERT) and is Councilor-for-Life of the USA Conference Board.
Mr. Tabaksblat was previously a member of the International Advisory Boards of Citigroup and Renault-Nissan.
He is also Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of Leiden University, the Leiden University Medical Centre and the War Trauma Foundation, Vice-Chairman of the European Cultural Foundation and member of the board of the Prince Claus Fund. For many years he was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Mauritshuis Museum.
Awards
Mr. Tabaksblat received a knighthood of the Order of the Netherlands Lion in 1995.
In 1999 he was appointed honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and in the same year he received the distinction of Grand Officer in the Order of Oranje-Nassau in the Netherlands.
In 2004 Mr. Tabaksblat received the FIRST award for Responsible Capitalism.
