LOUIS SCHWEITZER
Louis Schweitzer joined Renault in May 1986. He became Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice-President in 1988 and, two years later, President and Chief Operating Officer. He was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Renault from May 1992 to April 2005 and Chairman of the board from 2005 to 2009. During his tenure he was also President of the Management Board of Renault Nissan BV from 2002 to 2005.
Mr. Schweitzer opened Renault to private shareholders in 1994 and led the privatization of Renault in 1996. In 1999 Renault and Nissan joined forces. Under his guidance, in 2000, Renault took a majority stake in Dacia and Samsung and in 2001 became a major investor in Volvo AB, which now runs Renault's industrial vehicles activity.
Formerly, he was a Civil Servant in the Budget Department and then served for five years as Chief of Staff of Laurent Fabius, who was the French Prime Minister from 1984 to 1986.
BOARD MANDATES
Mr. Schweitzer is Chairman of Volvo AB and of AstraZeneca plc.
He also serves on the board of BNP-Paribas, L'Oréal and Véolia Environnement, where he is Vice-Chairman, as well as a number of non-profit-making institutions. He is also an Advisor to Allianz and Banque de France.
Mr. Schweitzer was, from 2005 to 2010, Chairman of The French High Authority for the Fight Against Discrimination and for Equality.
He was also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the French press group 'Le Monde' from 2008 to 2010 and has served on the boards of EDF, Philips and Pechiney.
