Lord Davies of Abersoch, CBE

LORD DAVIES OF ABERSOCH, CBE
Lord Davies of Abersoch held various positions at the HSBC Bank from 1972 to 1983 before joining Citibank, where he was a Managing Director and Senior Credit Officer.

He joined Standard Chartered in 1993 and in 1997 became a Main Board Director based in Hong Kong, responsible for Hong Kong, China, and technology and operations.  In 2001 he was made Group Chief Executive and then became Chairman in 2006.

Lord Davies was Minister for Trade, Investment and Small Business from January 2009 until May 2009.

In August 2010, the UK government appointed Lord Davies to conduct an independent review of gender equality on listed company’s boards.  The findings and recommendations were published in a report – Women on Boards – in February 2011.

Lord Davies is a Partner and Vice Chair of Corsair Capital, a private equity firm specializing in financial services
.

He is Non-Executive Chairman of Pinebridge Investments and Chair of the Advisory Board of Moelis & Co.

Lord Davies is a Non-Executive Director of Diageo and Bhasrti Airtel.

He is Chair of the Council of Bangor University in Wales and a trustee of the Royal Academy of Arts.

AWARDS
Lord Davies entered the House of Lords in 2007.  He was awarded a CBE for his services to the financial sector and the community in Hong Kong in June 2002 where he served as a member of the HK Exchange fund for many years.
