Juan Arena
Juan Arena joined Bankinter in 1970 where he spent 37 years working in various positions.
In 1982 he was named Head of the International Division and Deputy General Manager.
Since 1985, first as General Manager and later as Chief Executive Officer, he directed Bankinter, making it the technological leader amongst Spanish banks.
In 2002 he was appointed Chairman, a position he held until his retirement in 2007.

Mr. Arena is a member of the board of Directors of Ferrovial and a member of its Audit, Appointments and Remuneration Committees.
He is a member of the board of Directors of Laboratorios Almirall, a consolidated international pharmaceutical company, where he also chairs the Audit Committee.
Mr. Arena is currently also on the board of Directors of Everis, a consulting company, and Sol Melia, one of the world’s largest hotel chains.
He is a Director and member of the Audit, Appointments and Remuneration Committee
at Dinamia Capital.
He is Chairman of the advisory board of UNIENCE, a start-up technology company, and member of the board of Deusto Business School.
Mr. Arena is also a member of the board of Directors of Harvard Club of Spain, President of Professional Council of ESADE, and member of the Harvard Business School European Advisory Board. He is a visiting professor at HBS in Cambridge (Ma) until spring of 2010.
He is Chairman of Fundación Empresa y Sociedad.
Awards
He has been awarded the “Gran Cruz de la Orden del Mérito Civil” in recognition of his contribution as a member of the Commission for the Development of the Information Society in Spain (“Soto Commission”). |
