Jaime Carvajal

Jaime Carvajal

Jaime Carvajal started his career in investment banking, first with Banco Urquijo where he became Chairman and CEO in 1978 and, following a takeover in 1983, he became Chairman and CEO of Banco Hispano Industrial and a member of Banco Hispano Americano’s main board.

Since 1988 Mr. Carvajal’s main activity has been private equity.
He was the founder, Chairman and CEO of Iberfomento until 1998 when, together with his team, he formed Dresdner Kleinwort Capital (Spain). He served as Chairman of Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein Spain and was member of the Board of Kleinwort Benson Group Ltd.

In 2002 he joined Advent International as a Partner and Chairman of the Spanish office.

Board Mandates

Mr. Carvajal is a Senior Advisor to Morgan Stanley Europe and member of the board of Grupo Ferrovial.

He is a member of the International Council of INSEAD and Chairman of the Orquesta de Camara Reina Sofia Foundation.

Mr. Carvajal is currently also Chairman of ABB Spain and Ericsson Spain and a board member of Aviva’s and Solvay’s Spanish subsidiaries.

He has also been Chairman for Ford of Spain (1981-2003), member of the board of Telefonica, Repsol, Union Fenosa, SGS S.A., Dufry AG and of the International Advisory boards of RJR Nabisco, Bain & Co. and Unisys.

Mr. Carvajal was appointed member of the Spanish Senate by His Majesty the King in 1977 and has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Museo Del Prado (1979-1999), Steering Committee, Bilderberg Meetings (1983-1998), Trilateral Commission (1979-2004), International Federation of Multiple Sclerosis, Chairman of Spain-US Council and Chairman of ANFAC (National Association of Automotive and Truck Manufacturers). .

Awards

He has received several awards like the “Order of Constitutional Merit” (Spain) and the “Great Cross of the Order of Civil Merit” (Spain), the “Order of the Polar Star” (Sweden) and an Honorary Doctorate from the Universidad Miguel Hernández.
