Jaap Peters
Jaap Peters started his career in the investment and finance departments of Dutch insurer, Nillmij.
Following the company’s merger with Eerste Nederlandsche insurance in 1969, Mr. Peters became Vice-President of the Finance Department in the newly formed entity, Ennia.
In 1979 Mr. Peters was appointed member of the Executive Board of Ennia, responsible for Investment, Strategic Planning, Internal Auditing and Finance.
Ennia appointed Mr. Peters as Chairman of its Executive Board in 1983. Following the company’s merger with AGO, he became Vice-Chairman of the Executive Board of the merged group AEGON and in 1984 was appointed Chairman and CEO of AEGON, one of
the world’s largest insurance groups.
In 1996 Mr. Peters assumed Chairmanship of the Corporate Governance Committee in the Netherlands.
Board Mandates
Until 2005 Mr. Peters was Chairman of the boards of Bank Nederlandse Gemeenten, Randstad Holding and the Dresdner RCM Endowment Policy Trust.
He was formerly Chairman of the boards of the Amsterdamse Maatschappij tot Stadsherstel, and the Dutch Flower Auction Company.
Mr. Peters has also been a Non-Executive Director of AEGON, the office furnishing group Samas, logistics company Royal Vopak and US pharmaceuticals company Pharmacia.
Mr. Peters has held a number of chairmanships in benevolent funds and is a member of several corporate and voluntary organisations throughout Europe.
Awards
In 1989 Mr. Peters received the knighthood of the Order of the Netherlands Lion.
